Back in the Seventies there was a trend for US TV movies that dealt with difficult and controversial subjects, often with great success. Who can forget Linda Blair's battle with the bottle in ? In the topic is teenagers dabbling with drugs, and it's really rather impressive. Though how they got the hardcore sex orgies past the network censors is beyond my understanding, especially after the storm over Linda Blair's toilet-brush rape scene in the previous year's (I'm in two minds over whether I want to see that one).
Pretty and innocent eighteen-year-old Cathy (Jean Jennings) is chatting in her bedroom with her best friend Susan (Day Jason). But Cathy has unwittingly slipped into bad company as her friend knows a "real groovy doctor" who gives her a special powder to sniff. Susan offers Cathy some - it turns out to be cocaine. Very naughty, but as long as her Mother doesn't find out ... oh knickers
Her concerned parents consult with the family doctor, who advises that a stay in a mental hospital is the best way forward to safeguard Cathy's physical and mental health. A shock, but it's only for a short time, purely for observation...
So Cathy packs her bag (there's just room for her favourite teddy bear) and says a tearful goodbye to her Father. Her Mother drives her to the shabby city mental institution and checks her in. Everyone is acting for the best, but if this mother knew the nightmare she was letting her daughter in for she would have trusted her instincts and turned round on the spot and fled.
(2:29 minutes, 320x240, 12.6MB)
Cathy is put straight into the hands of a burly attendant, who to her shock informs her that she will immediately have to submit to a strip-search for drugs. Demure at first, Cathy agrees this is no time for modesty and removes all her clothes. She is then subjected to a painful and semi-explicit poking into all three holes. This scene is fairly badly done compared to the rest of the film but still well worth seeing.
